Fortune Magazine has recognised Amcor for our work with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which is focusing on aid packaging to help more food to reach more people in urgent need. In the magazine’s annual “Change the World” report, Fortune describes Amcor's partnership with WFP:
"Since 2015, the Australian-owned packaging giant Amcor has been working with the World Food Programme on improving the way aid and foodstuffs are delivered to the most remote parts of the world. Already, revamped packages housing vital nutritional supplements have saved almost $3.2 million for the WFP, and reduced packaging waste by 275 tons."
The Fortune report is the latest acknowledgment of Amcor sustainability leadership. The FTSE4Good Index continues to acknowledge our significant, ongoing commitment to social responsibility, sustainability, and governance. The Australian Council of Superannuation Investors recently assessed Amcor as a “leading” company for sustainability reporting and disclosure. WFP is one of Amcor's three global sustainability partners. We also have long-term relationships with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation on initiatives to increase recycling, and with Ocean Conservancy to protect the world’s seas.
In compiling its report, Fortune seeks nominations from business, academic, and non-profit groups. Its journalists then investigate candidates independently. The final list of 50 recognised companies who are then selected and ranked by the editors of Fortune. Companies with $1Bn+ in revenue are evaluated on three essential criteria: measurable contribution to societal impact, scale of business results, and degree of innovation relative to the industry.
