Kerry Foods is celebrating alongside Amcor as Yollies was a finalist for the Best Dairy Packaging Design award at last night’s World Dairy Innovation awards (WDIA).

“The pace of change and real innovation demonstrated in the wide variety of entries in the tenth annual World Dairy Innovation Awards is evidence that the international food and beverage industry continues to deliver for the consumer,” said FoodBev Media director Bill Bruce. “From exciting new flavours and ingredients to clever convenience packaging and measurable advances in environmental responsibility, the awards highlight the best of the best from both established companies and a growing number of start-ups.”

Yollies Yogurt Lolly is a highly innovative new product – a fun way to enjoy the healthy goodness of yogurt. It is a yogurt lolly made with thickened yogurt and fruit puree designed for children’s lunchboxes.

Kerry Foods had a world’s first dairy technology for yogurt and chose Unifill to help develop the shape and the filling solution. Kerry Foods selected Amcor to supply the ideal thermoforming packaging material.

The resulting stay-fresh pod shape is very distinctive, helping to build a Yollies’ brand personality as the laminate is transformed to form the Yollies’ shape. Amcor’s easy peel & release film technology allows the product to come out of the pod easily so that the children can eat the yogurt on the stick with no mess!

“Yollies was an exciting project, with many technical challenges and we’re thrilled it was recognised by the WDIA judges,” said Colette Sheehan, Dairy Packaging Manager for Kerry Foods. “Combining Kerry’s knowledge in Dairy, Unifill’s expertise in manufacturing of Vertical Thermoform Fill & Seal machines & Amcor’s proprietary film knowledge & printing expertise, we’ve achieved a really successful launch of our Yollies range.”

The winners of the World Dairy Innovation Awards were announced at the Global Dairy Congress in London on Tuesday 28 June 2016. There were 211 entries from 37 countries, which were judged by an expert panel.
