For the first time in its history, COMPAMED 2020 took place virtually, as the world continues to manage the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The online format did not deter interest from the healthcare community and manufacturers, with positive engagement across the virtual showrooms and live panel discussions. Webinar sessions reflected the need to look forward, with topics focused on CSARS-CoV-2 optimal testing strategies and on the role of smart robotics in healthcare.
The Amcor virtual booth focused on packing technologies that are providing solutions to medical device manufactures in the fight against COVID-19.
With in-vitro diagnostics tests in high demand, there is a need for high barrier packaging that controls moisture, ensuring shelf life. Answering this trend is Amcor Dessiflex® technology; a user-friendly, fully integrated packaging solution already used across a wide range of products to protect and ensure the integrity of moisture sensitive devices and pharmaceuticals.
During virtual Compamed, Amcor hosted a webinar focused on the environmental challenges facing packaging manufacturers, titled: "The journey to medical packaging sustainability and recyclability." While medical packaging plays a vital role in ensuring sterility and usability of medical devices, sustainability cannot be ignored. The task today is to continue to deliver and enhance packaging performance while also moving towards greater sustainability.
Steven Meun, consultant for HPRC Europe (Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council), Isabelle Jenny, Amcor Sustainability Manager and Neil Hawkesford, Amcor Senior Product Manager Healthcare, discussed the challenges and opportunities of developing more sustainable long-term solutions.
