Job Description

Summary: The Sortation Operator monitors, operates, and maintains advanced automation systems within our warehouse. This role is critical to ensuring optimal throughput, minimizing downtime, and supporting the performance of robotic and material handling equipment.              

Carton Handling System Operations / Work Order Management

  • Monitor and operate advanced sorting and palletizing automation systems to ensure optimal throughput.
  • Manage overflow zones and coordinate PIT operations for load transfers, manual builds, and wrap staging.
  • Add, assign, and manage work orders multiple times per shift across Molding and Printing departments.
  • Track progress and status of work orders, remove outdated ones, and notify teams when orders are ready to close.
  • Track scrap and document at the end of shift.

Troubleshooting and Recovery

  • Respond to system alerts and mechanical faults in real-time; execute timely recoveries to prevent downtime.
  • Monitor sorter system components (Sorter Rail, MD, Reject Spur, RPD) and communicate defects to responsible teams.
  • Report construction and labeling issues affecting sorter operations and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Operate and troubleshoot Robopack systems, to achieve performance optimization.

Data Logging and System Reporting

  • Accurately log downtime, performance metrics, and technical repairs in dedicated logs.
  • Participate in system data collection using tools like Berry Mission Control and Ignition dashboards.
  • Recommend system and layout improvements based on operational insights.

Other duties assigned by department manager.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent. 1-3 years of warehouse and/or 1 year of streamlining equipment experience preferred. Basic computer skills.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Use of mathematical skills in spreadsheets desired.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of U.V. radiation.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Shift

12 Hour Day shift 7:00AM to 7:00PM  (2,2,3,2 schedule)

Starting Pay Range: $19.00 per hour.
