Job Description

Summary:

Responsible for the supervision and direction of all shift production employees. Operates the factory within all safety regulations, quality standards and maintain production standards as efficiently as possible. Adheres to good housekeeping and assumes responsibility for the entire facility in the absence of the Technical Manager. Maintains the highest standard of professionalism and a positive attitude while handling multiple tasks and priorities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and providing clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations

  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.

  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and applicable laws

  • Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks

  • Lead all required meetings with safety (i.e. Pre-shift, Department, Change Management, General communication, Town Hall, etc.)

  • Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner 

  • Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible

  • Sets goals for their organizational unit; achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals

  • Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback

  • Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed

  • People planning to ensure adequate coverage on all machines for scheduled production

  • Follow all Company policies and procedures

  • Communicating with other shift supervisors to anticipate and prepare for any possible production problems

  • Ensure the machines run according to the instructions/specifications on the Traveler (i.e. correct resin, additives and packaging)

  • Manages all employees during the shift

  • Provides detailed reports to Technical Manager and/or Plant Manger

  • Correctly records daily production to Web EFF

  • Maintains good employee relations by stimulating maximum efficiency and productivity of all production employees through good communication and regular performance reviews

  • Provides training as appropriate (i.e. tool box meetings, safety, etc.)

  • Recommends the hiring and releasing of production personnel as required to maintain production schedules

  • Responsible for all processes, equipment, employee’s safety and housekeeping of the areas and meeting production quality and quantity standards of their shift

  • Assures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods and elimination of wasteful practices within the departments

  • Keeps accurate records of departmental activities by documenting log book

  • Collects and summarizes raw material usage and inventory, monitoring usage for maximum efficiency

  • Works with and through the set-up, lead persons, operators, technicians on shift to manage the shift

  • Performs duties in a safe manner and address all observed safety hazards and unresolved safety issues with Plant/Technical Manager

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to implement, training and administer general safety practices

  • Participate in safety meetings and follow through on recommendations

  • Conduct employee meetings with shift

  • Coordinate with the Plant/Technical Manager, Safety Manager and Maintenance Manager on maintenance priorities

  • Coordinate with Human Resources department in the training, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for all assigned employees

  • Present a positive and professional attitude at all times

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, written and leadership skills

  • Be punctual and maintain good attendance record

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • The employee in this job is required to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of time); and up to 35 pounds of force frequently (more than 1/3 of the total time); if over 50 lbs, requires a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift.

  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours

  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times

  • Reaching with hands and arms for as much as 100% of workday

  • Talking to communicate with others

  • Hearing to communicate with others and respond to manufacturing and PIT equipment sounds

  • Using arms to grasp, handle, and type

  • Walking to operate production machines and to package and palletize finished product

Language Skills:

Must be able to read and write in English

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required. 2-4 year degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience required. Cast, Blown film extrusion or film converting experience preferred

Salary: The starting rate of pay for this position is expected to be $75,000; however, starting pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience between $75,000 and $100,000.
