POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance operations of injection molding equipment on a shift. This role serves as the technical expert on the maintenance team, providing hands-on support in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues. The Lead Tech ensures that all equipment is maintained in optimal condition to support continuous production and minimize downtime.
In addition to performing complex maintenance tasks, the Lead Maintenance Technician coordinates work assignments, mentor’s junior technicians, and ensures compliance with safety protocols and preventive maintenance schedules. This position plays a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, supporting process improvements, and fostering a culture of safety and accountability within the maintenance team.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Lead and supervise a team of maintenance technicians in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment.
- Work with Maintenance Manager to effectively provide appropriate procedures to ensure equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and perform necessary repairs.
- Coordinate with production teams to minimize downtime and optimize machines’ performance.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, parts inventory, and equipment history.
- Train and mentor maintenance technicians, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, promoting a safe working environment.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance processes and equipment performance.
- Assist with managing spare parts inventory, ensuring availability of critical components.
- Collaborate with external vendors and service providers as needed.
- Follow and support all Company Safety, GMP, HACCP policies.
- Follow and support all Company ISO, QMS and QSI policies.
- Maintain the highest quality of services rendered.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the shop and on the plant floor.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in injection molding maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of injection molding machines, robotics, and auxiliary equipment.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Commitment to safety and quality standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Mobility: Must be able to move freely throughout the facility, including production floors, maintenance areas, and storage locations.
- Standing and Walking: Required to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift), often on concrete surfaces.
- Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional assistance with heavier loads may be required.
- Climbing and Reaching: Occasional climbing of ladders or steps and reaching overhead or below waist level to inspect or access equipment and systems.
- Bending, Stooping, and Kneeling: Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to inspect machinery, perform minor repairs, or assist technicians.
- Manual Dexterity: Must have fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, operate diagnostic equipment, and manage documentation.
- Visual and Auditory Acuity: Ability to read schematics, maintenance logs, and computer screens. Must be able to hear alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions in a noisy environment.
- Environmental Exposure: May be exposed to heat, humidity, plastic fumes, dust, and moderate to high noise levels typical of injection molding operations.
- Forklift Operation: May be required to operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks to transport equipment or materials. Certification preferred or must be willing to obtain.
- Emergency Response: Must be physically capable of responding quickly to equipment failures or safety incidents, including navigating tight spaces and elevated platforms.
