Job Description
Drive and contribute to programs to provide solutions to customers while driving profitable growth. Work may include areas such as: research, applications development, materials enhancements and/or cost-out initiatives. An expert-level contributor providing content and leadership on complex assignments and projects and investing in building functional capability through thought leadership (internally and externally), mentoring, coaching and/or consulting at all levels in the function and occasionally into the business. Partners to establish strategic research vision and agendas with regional R&D leaders and carries significant global influence. Operates as a key resource across the business in existing, new to market, or new to Amcor technologies. Drives key strategic R&D initiatives by creating original research ideas and partnering to create and execute the most value-added programs with continuous demonstration of major innovation accomplishments. Impact is often to achieving mid- to long-term goals.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Collaborate on or initiate the discovery/study of next generation and adjacent technologies and methodologies in order to create high value added research programs.
- Maintain a track record of recognized scientific expertise in a specific field(s).
- Partner to transform market space and create value using innovative technology and manufacturing capability.
- Interpret competitive IP, designs, and technologies – influence company direction to competitive advantage. Create original and forward-looking intellectual property
- Solve technical challenges in the organization
- Advise the organization at multiple levels on strategic technology topics
- Understand and articulate the company’s risk appetite and define risk tolerances for use in the business.
- Steer or consult on highly complex programs. Develop technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solved using existing or well-known methods
- Represent company externally. This includes publications, lectures, and committees.< >Mentor R&D personnel – building technical and business capability
- Drive continuous improvement and sustained technical capabilities within the “ways we work”
- Lead/influence others toward business improvements with thoughtful analysis,
- Actively engage in the Global R&D Sr. Scientist Council. May serve in rotating lead seat.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU
- Undergraduate degree required (Typically in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science other related area.)
- PhD or a Graduate degree
- Demonstrated years of progressive success in a technical capacity within a global manufacturing environment
- Known in industry as a trusted voice in research specialty(ies)
- Strong technical leadership presence and the ability to consult senior leaders
- Global thinker with demonstrated ability to collaborate across regions and cultures
- Ability to present highly technical material in an easy to understand way
- Multiple examples of created IP, demonstrating implementation of platform solutions with strong business partnerships
- Ability to influence or make key technical decisions in non-standard technical areas/tasks
- Demonstration of being highly valued with customers and suppliers
- Demonstration of conceptual thinking to understand complex issued, apply judgment and proceed an agenda proactively
