Job Description
Basic Function:
Incumbent will troubleshoot and make repairs to all general machinery (Sidel, Husky, Nissei), conveyor systems, plant support equipment, case packers, box makers, stretch wrappers, palletizers and other necessary equipment to ensure efficient and effective operation of machinery for a high quality finished product. Incumbent will be the primary contact for ordering necessary parts for maintenance and repair of equipment.
Essential Function and Responsibilities:
- Uses schematic diagrams to troubleshoot and repair electric, hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.
- Complete preventive maintenance on all production equipment in a timely manner according to schedule.
- Determine needed parts and/or equipment necessary to complete repairs and preventive maintenance and complete appropriate order requests. Work with Parts Room Coordinators to make sure correct parts are ordered at competitive pricing.
- Learn and gain expertise on new equipment and processes.
- Instruct co-workers (maintenance staff and production operators) on proper and safe operation of equipment as needed.
- Organize and maintain maintenance areas and stockroom.
- Utilize Levels training program to increase technical skill, knowledge and cross training with all machines that you are supporting. It is expected that shift maintenance co-workers utilize the levels program and grow in skill to promote cross training activity into Mold Change and Shift Maintenance to be a back up co-worker as needed.
- Follow all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook, and as stated in the various safety-related training programs. This includes, but is not limited to, lockout/tagout, electrical code safe practices and confined space entry programs.
- Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to the appropriate personnel. Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- May perform other related assignments as needed.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Shift Supervisor.
Job Specifications and Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in a related technical field strongly preferred. Prior maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred and may be used to substitute for degree.
Interpersonal Skills: English fluency required. Good written and verbal communications skills are required. Incumbent must possess effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Technical Skills: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency by performance and/or certificates in at least four of the following skill sets:
Electrical Maint.
Hydraulics
Packaging Maint.
Machine Shop
Welding
Electronics
Blow Molding
Air Compressor
Micrometers
Calipers
Refrigeration
Injection Molding
Building Maint.
PLC
Must be familiar with hand tools and maintenance practices. Understanding of schematic
diagrams required. Good general mathematical skills required.
Other: Must own or be able to provide general mechanic’s tools. Must be capable of
working effectively in a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment. Incumbent
must have the ability to interpret and carry out both simple and complex instructions.
Must be able to work a 12-hour production shift schedule (including weekends and
possible night shifts). Incumbent should be willing to demonstrate schedule flexibility for
coverage for vacations and other absences.
Physical Requirements: Required to stand/walk for up to 11 hours per shift on concrete floor. Will be required to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Must frequently squat, bend, kneel, reach, etc., in order to carry out essential functions of the position. May be required to work in close contact with heavy machinery with strong magnetic forces.
Level of Authority: You have the right to shut down any piece of equipment that you deem unsafe. You are responsible to take action once equipment has been shutdown.
