Job Overview
The Skilled Operator Technician in the MLX Department supports plant operations by performing advanced production and
equipment‑related tasks to ensure customer demand, quality, and safety standards are consistently met. This role also
provides day‑to‑day guidance and technical support to Operator Technician. The Skilled Operator Technician works under
the direction of the Team Lead and reports directly to the Production Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production and Equipment Operations
· Operate MLX production and molding equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures under the
lead of the Team Lead and direction of the Production Supervisor.
· Set up and prepare a variety of molds to ensure they are production‑ready upon order completion.
· Ensure all cycle sheet parameters are correctly installed into molding machines.
· Adjust mold settings including clamp pressures, mold temperatures, and material temperatures using
appropriate measuring instruments, hand tools, and gauges per setup documentation.
· Verify all safety switches, mold travel, and machine functionality to prevent mold or equipment damage.
· Ensure all auxiliary equipment is installed, functional, and properly configured for MLX production.
2. Quality and Compliance
· Implement customer‑specific quality requirements by performing required inspections and checks.
· Package and label finished MLX products according to the Control Plan.
· Perform raw material line clearances at the completion of production orders.
· Analyze mold and process issues and assist in making necessary process or mechanical adjustments.
· Perform root cause analysis when issues arise and determine whether immediate corrective action is possible
or escalation is required.
3. Maintenance and Preventative Care
· Perform basic preventive maintenance activities as assigned.
· Prepare work orders for machine or mold repairs as needed.
· Ensure machine guards, mold guards, and safety devices are in place to maintain product quality and safety.
· Maintain a clean and organized press area before, during, and after setups.
· Remove scrap material, gaylords, excess corrugate, and roll‑around containers from the production area.
· Load scrap, regrind, and/or finished products to the designated areas when required.
· Maintain a 5S‑compliant work environment in the MLX department.

5. Leadership and Communication
· Participate in daily production meetings, communicating key information related to safety, quality, maintenance,
production, and continuous improvement.
· Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to Operator Technicians.
· Perform root cause analysis and determine whether issues can be resolved immediately or escalated to
appropriate personnel.
· Follow work instructions and, when required, assist in writing, revising, and training others on standard work
instructions.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods, up to 12-hour shifts.
· Regularly required to bend, twist, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
· Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, noise, heat, and industrial
materials, following all safety requirements.
· Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications/Requirements
Formal Qualifications and Experience
· 1–2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within a plastic injection molding operation.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
· Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-task manufacturing environment.
· Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision while supporting and guiding T1 staff.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours
· Strong organizational and time-management skills
· Attention to detail and accuracy
· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple orders simultaneously
· Effective communication with maintenance, vendors, and internal stakeholders
· Understanding of inventory best practices (min/max levels, cycle counting, critical spares)
· Be able to stand for prolong time; up to 12 hours
· Ability to push/pull/lift up to 50lbs
