Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

   

  • Yard Jockey Driver position based in Middletown, DE
  • Travels to Morgantown, PA on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to perform yard jockey duties
  • Schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Transport goods and freight using a truck or tractor-trailer
  • Complete pre- and post-trip inspections on tractor and trailer
  • Inspect loads to ensure proper loading and securement
  • Notify dispatch and secure loads with straps or load locks if needed
  • Review Bill of Lading (BOL) for accuracy
  • Plan routes, breaks, and deliveries to meet deadlines
  • Complete electronic DVIR via ELD for deficiencies
  • Contact maintenance team and repair hotline for service needs
  • Schedule preventative maintenance with lease providers (Penske/Ryder)
  • Report safety incidents immediately to safety and dispatch
  • Complete monthly Near Miss documentation
  • Ensure on-time pickup and delivery
  • Use onboard TMS for dispatch and communication
  • Comply with traffic laws and FMCSR regulations, including hours of service
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and transportation personnel
  • Monitor weather and road conditions and adjust driving accordingly
  • Manage cargo securement and load distribution
  • Complete and submit daily trip sheets
  • Submit weekly documentation (trip sheets, receipts, etc.)
  • Communicate professionally with all stakeholders (dispatch, safety, customers, law enforcement, DOT)
  • Operate equipment such as 5th wheel release, tandem axles, and trailer doors in all weather conditions
  • Adjust trailer pin height using landing gear crank
  • Sit for extended periods within hours-of-service limits
  • Adapt quickly to road, traffic, and environmental conditions
  • Work weekends as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Load and unload trailers (manual or with equipment)
  • Pick and pack materials for shipping
  • Operate powered equipment (forklift, pallet jack, reach truck) when certified
  • Use WMS to manage inventory and loading/unloading
  • Travel to company warehouses to support operations
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts
  • Perform cycle counts and physical inventories
  • Assist with breaking down materials and maintaining baler
  • Support other drivers and material handlers as needed
  • Avoid using power equipment without proper certification

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and friendly work environment
  • Perform additional assigned functions
  • Assist with silo maintenance and cleaning
  • Report damages and unsafe conditions
  • Support warehouse team as directed
  • Participate in safety and quality programs
  • Identify and report safety concerns
  • Ensure safety of self, coworkers, and environment
  • Maintain a valid, non-expired Class A CDL

Qualifications

  • Maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Demonstrate organizational and multitasking skills
  • Read and understand standard English text (e.g., pack lists)
  • Communicate with diverse individuals
  • Perform in fast-changing, high-demand environments
  • Apply basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  • Make decisions based on policies and past practices
  • Use verbal communication tools (radio/paging systems)
  • Recognize emergencies and respond appropriately
  • Stand and walk for extended periods (7+ hours per shift)
  • Hear and respond to alarms and warnings
  • Be proficient in JDE systems
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 35 lbs.
  • Safely operate forklifts in high-traffic areas
  • Climb ladders and steps safely
  • Maintain physical fitness without risk of sudden impairment
  • Hold a valid Class A CDL
  • Have at least 1 year of verifiable experience with 53-ft trailers
