Job Description

1.0 Purpose: The primary function of the Safety Advocate is the implementation and ongoing development of the Safety Program and Safety Initiatives at the Bowling Green, KY site.  Associate will not be involved in any disciplinary actions.  Associate may be asked / required to participate in internal investigations.

2.0 Location: Bowling Green, KY (BOKY) Facility

3.0 Responsibilities:

  •       Participate in all phases of employee safety with a primary focus on the implementation of improving safety programs.
  • Assist in Management of Change processes at the facility
  • Become a trained facilitator in the safety process, including classroom presentations.
  • Assist in the development of safety programs and facilitate plant wide training objectives to include tracking and documenting activities.
  • Serve on the Safety Committee and other safety teams.  Attend all meetings and facilitate meetings when EHS Manager is unavailable.
  • Other duties assigned by the EHS Manager

Secondary Duties:

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits working with Department Managers, Supervisors, and Associates to ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA.
  • Assist in updating and training of employees in various safety programs with included OSHA required training programs.
  • Assist in updating policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with the monitoring, recording, and publishing of plant safety statistics, including analysis.
  • Participate in the investigation of first aid, near miss, and recordable incidents.
  • Inventory and maintain safety supplies.
  • Assist in the recruiting of employees to participate in departmental safety teams.

Miscellaneous:

  • Need to be able to work flexible hours (with notice).
  • Be willing to work overtime when needed.
  • Complete assigned personal compliance trainings.
  • Comply with all Safety, ISO, SQF, or other plant specific rules and policies

4.0 Qualifications:

4.1 Skills

  •                   Must have experience in plant safety and be able to demonstrate that knowledge.
  • Must demonstrate a high school level of competence in the areas of:
    • Vocabulary
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Spelling
    • Language
    • Problem Solving
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work with and interact effectively and professionally with management staff and coworkers in a team environment.
  • Good organizational skills

4.2 Education and/or Equivalent Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED (Degree in Safety or related field preferred, but not required).

4.3 Physical Requirements/Work Environment

4.3.1 Must be able to work eight (8) hours per day, five days per week. Overtime may be necessary. (flexibility to accommodate all shifts when needed)

4.3.2 Office environment; temperature range 65-85 degrees, depending on season.

4.3.3 Noise level is usually 87dB.

4.3.4 Minimal plastic purge fumes, normal level of dust and odor associated with an office environment at a plant site.

4.3.5 Must be able to wear PPE, such as hairnet, safety toed shoes, earplugs, and beard net (if applicable). No jewelry allowed on production floor.

4.3.6 Will lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally during the day.

4.3.7 One to two hour intervals of sitting in a back supported chair doing paperwork, having telephone conversations and attending meetings.

4.3.8 Single arm movement for writing, reading, computer operation, calculator and copy machine.

4.3.9 Good visual ability, ability to read printed material up to 1 ½ hour intervals at computer screen.

4.3.10 Must have good phone skills, ability to interact with other employees, outside contacts and counterparts throughout the Amcor organization.
