Job Description
Job summary
Operates extrusion equipment to produce rolls of plastic film. Sets up and adjusts equipment per specifications, feeds film through series of rollers and secondary equipment to winders. Ensure proper width, gauge, length, tension, weight, and other properties, inspect for quality. Completes final packaging and labeling. Enters production in system.
Summary of essential job functions
Operates machine to extrude thermoplastic materials and manufacture blown (packaging) film according to specifications: Operates machine and may adjust controls to regulate vacuum, air pressure, sizing rings, and temperature; and synchronizes speed of extrusion with pulling rolls. Reviews production order and gathers proper resins, colorant, and other related materials are staged to supply extruder using lift truck vehicle and/or coupling designated hoses. Examines extruded product for defects, such as wrinkles, bubbles, splits and makes equipment adjustments/modification to improve quality. Measures extruded articles for conformance to specifications, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges; and adjusts speed and weight controls or turns water, air, or valves to obtain product of specified dimensions. Tests physical properties of product with dimension testers and completes visual inspections. Reels extruded product into rolls of specified length and weight. Removes finished rolls from winder and completes specified packaging by placing roll(s) on to shipping pallet using lift table, chain hoist, or similar mechanism. Relocates finished pallet to holding area using electric pallet jack, lift truck, or similar equipment. Completes production paperwork documenting product testing, gauge, size, weight, or other production statistics. May be assigned to cut roll cores which are placed on winder spindles.
Minimum requirements
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent training plus minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience. May also operator forklift truck vehicle requiring certification.
