Job Description
Basic Function:
The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for repairs, troubleshooting, and expertise in functionality of all machinery, conveyor systems, plant support equipment, case packers, box makers, stretch wrappers, and palletizers. This role will be responsible for all forms of electrical, hydraulics, mechanical, projects, and systems related issues that support all departments at the Amcor Nicholasville facility.
Essential Function and Responsibilities:
- Must have expert knowledge in all systems, including, but not limited to
- Material system / Vacuum
- Throughput and conversions
- IZ compressor sequencer
- Cooling tower and chiler process pump(s)
- Preventative Maintenance activities and rebuilds
- Must provide troubleshooting support to our maintenance teams, including Specialists, Preventative Maintenance, and Shift Maintenance, including but not limited to the following areas:
- HVAC for electrical and mechanical support
- Air compressors for electrical and mechanical support
- PLCs, including systems and production related issues
- Mechanical troubleshooting, including systems and production related issues
- Electrical troubleshooting, including systems and production related issues
- Communicate and act as a liaison with contractors in order to resolve any plant and/or production related issues in addition to project work.
- Lead site-wide maintenance projects in order to make the facility more efficient and effective.
- Act as a specialist in arc flash in addition to maintaining arc flash related documentation for the Amcor Nicholasville facility.
- Lead annual infrared audits and repair any safety issues. Act as an infrared specialist.
- Work with the Project Engineer on the design of in-house projects, flow, pressures, and conversions.
- Must be able to read and understand electrical and mechanical prints.
- Act as the project specialist for design, assemble and install, IE, color sensor unit, height detectors, and push button controls conversion to integrated touch screens on all compressors.
- Schedule PMs and understand the time base / run hours process.
- Develop, write and maintain SOP’s and Work Instructions; assist in ensuring compliance on 24/7 basis.
- Must be able to create and train a team on a one-point lesson.
- Understand and effectively work in SAP and all uses for maintenance.
- Ability to order parts and effectively follow up on parts ordered in order to ensure success and reduce downtime.
- Learn and gain expertise in new equipment and processes as required. This may include formal training courses and education as necessary.
- Proactively communicate with team, help out, and share technical knowledge with peers and operators. Willing to assist and encourage operators.
- Understand and practice the escalation process effectively and respectfully.
- Implement and enforce GMP and housekeeping standards.
- Offer suggestions for Continuous Improvement; assist in implementation of ideas.
- Utilize the Specialist Levels Program to develop your skills and advance your career within the Specialist role.
- Practice good decision making for equipment vs production prioritization decision making.
- Lead teams in major repairs to develop teambuilding. Must be a leader amongst peers and participate on teams with a positive / can do attitude.
- Participate in review of Technical Content of the Levels Program with MPT for same department, for Operators / Process Technicians / Shift Technicians. Partner with HR Manager for any updates to training documents.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area in accordance with Company standards.
- Must be safety conscience and observe all safety rules for lock-out/tag-out procedure, electrical code safe practices, and confined space entry programs. Follows all other established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and in accordance with Amcor’s Safety Policies and Procedures. Understands and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and supervision. Properly uses all required personal protective equipment.

- May perform other related assignments as needed.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager/Sr. Engineering Manager.
Job Specifications and Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions. Education and Experience: Must have completed and spent a year in Specialist Level 2. Must complete Communication and Conflict Management course from FLLT. A.S. degree in Electrical or Industrial Mechanical Maintenance plus 3-5 years relevant maintenance experience with Husky, Aoki, Nissei or related equipment preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communications skills across all levels of the organization are required. Incumbent must possess effective teamwork and interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively speak, read, write and understand English.
Technical Skills: Must be familiar with hand tools and maintenance practices. Understanding of schematic diagrams required. Good general mathematical skills required. Basic computer skills in Excel and Word required. Prior experience with SPC preferred.
Other: Strong decision-making, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
required. Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and issues required. Must own or be able to
provide general mechanic’s tools. Must be capable of working effectively in a fast-paced,
high-quality manufacturing environment. Incumbent must have the ability to interpret and
carry out both simple and complex instructions. Must be able to work an 8-hour weekday
shift schedule. However, incumbent must be willing to demonstrate schedule flexibility to
cover for vacations, other absences and call-ins for areas of expertise. This may include
12-hour shifts, night and weekend work, if required.
Physical Requirements: Required to stand/walk for up to 8 hours per shift on concrete floor. Will be required to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Must frequently squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, etc., in order to carry out essential functions of the position.
