Job Description

Summary

The Printing Maintenance Technician is a skilled position responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of machinery and accessory equipment with in the printing department. With the purpose of keeping the machinery and accessory equipment ready to produce quality products in a safe manner. Troubleshooting and repair of electrical and mechanical breakdowns is a essential task of the job. The printing maintenance technician will occasionally receive task and/or projects that will require them to work independently or in a team to complete.

Essential Functions, Authorities and Duties

  • Troubleshoot, repair and perform preventive maintenance on all equipment in the Printing Department.
  • Follow all company policies, work and safety rules.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools and shop equipment in a safe and useful manner.
  • Keep a clean, safe and orderly workplace
  • Keep proper records of maintenance performed on the printing presses.
  • Look for ways to make equipment safer, with better quality and efficiency.
  • All printing maintenance technicians are expected to walk the floor at the beginning of their shift, stop at every scheduled machine. It is expected that all printing maintenance technicians interact with production employees during the walk through, find out about machine issues and address the machine issues.
  • Willingness and ability to cross train into other technical departments as directed.
  • Ability to work overtime. Some overtime may be assigned at the last minute or called in to cover a shift.
  • Check emails daily.
  • Check JDE daily for work orders and to log time.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as directed.
  • Bailer troubleshooting and repair.
  • Robot and conveyor troubleshooting and repair.
  • Phone responsibilities for on call and call ins. Expected to answer the phone and/or return phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Train employees to troubleshoot and repair machines in a safe and positive manner.
  • Understands Importance of SQF, ISO and Plant Safety Policies.
  • Strong GDC participation required.
  • Maintain high level of housekeeping in and around work area, including personal toolbox.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate with all coworkers in a professional and positive manner.
  • Clear and open two-way communication with coworkers on repair calls using a handheld radio. Response to all communication is a must.
  • Perform any other duties or assignments as established by a group-lead, supervisor or manager.

  • Possess a basic mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • The employee must demonstrate the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Possess own hand tools.
  • Positive attitude towards hard work, authority, responsibility and team work.
  • Maintain an Arc Flash level 1
  • Stay up to date on CPR certification

Communication Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports or correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to interact with production personal in a respectful and positive manner.

Mathematical and Technology Skills

  • Perform arithmetic. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Understand and utilize decimals and fractions.
  • Basic computer skills including email, word processing, simple spreadsheets and use of electronic forms.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Good attendance
  • Good communication skills
  • Past experience in machine repair

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, bend, stoop and walk for the majority of their shift.
  • Able to climb up and down ladders.
  • Be able to reach, feel and manipulate with hands and arms
  • Ability to safely lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to work around grease, oils, inks and solvents without adverse reactions.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near machinery, powered industrial trucks, moving mechanical parts, and high spaces. Also may be exposed to fumes, high temperatures, airborne particles and loud noise.
