Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Supervise and direct the production processes in a manner, which optimizes machine efficiencies while producing quality products with a minimum scrap and conversion cost. Ensure direct reports and supporting workforce are suitable trained and performing essential functions. Provide upper management with consistently clear reporting while ensuring compliance to all company policies, corporate and plant procedures in support of policies, and any regulatory (ISO 9001) concerns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise support of all Company policies - Safety, ISO 9001, company and plant procedures as well as relevant production department responsibilities
- Leads production safety initiatives, and promotes a safe work environment through planning, observation, and execution
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements within the department
- Ensure that operational checks/verifications are executed timely and consistently
- Write and conduct employee evaluations and corrective actions where needed
- Supervise that all resin blends, production yield, and scrap rate are at or above goal and respond as needed when not met. Enter data into appropriate systems as a means of recording shift performance
- Monitor daily attendance and staffing requirements to meet schedules and maintain hours in Kronos – report to Production Manager on differences, changes, or needs
- Observe and where possible, trouble-shoot areas of manufacturing and operations where, safety, quality, or production, are at risk
- Ensure that all working documents / paperwork is complete and correct and authorized where differences occur
- Ensure department is maintaining good housekeeping, safety, and manufacturing practices
- Effectively communicate policies and procedures with a positive attitude
- Perform First Responder duties as needed
- Report all aspects of production to include; machine status, personnel status, new employee training, training of promoted individuals
- Conduct daily pre-shift or other employee meetings/trainings as needed
- other duties deemed necessary by Management
ADDITIONAL FRONT LINE LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and provides clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations
- Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and applicable laws
- Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks
- Lead all required meetings (i.e. Pre-shift, Department, Town Hall, etc.)
- Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner
- Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible
- Sets goals for their organizational unit; achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals
- Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed

Education And/ Or Experience
Education: Associates degree or equivalent form a 2-year college or technical school
Experience: 5 years in manufacturing; 3 years in a supervisory role
Minimum education and years of experience should not be used exclusive of other leveling factors described below.

- Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation
- Ability to communicate ideas to groups or individuals
- Ability to use AS400, Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes
- Ability to use tools and measurement instruments
- Ability to develop information tracking systems
- Knowledge of business finances and manufacturing costs
- Knowledge of extrusion process
- Knowledge of national testing standards.
- Knowledge of and skill in the extrusion and blown film plastic process and associated equipment and machinery
- Ability to operate a forklift
- Knowledge of and skill in use of computers, Kronos, AS400, and PC
- Ability to support a 24/7 site
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees from diverse cultural backgrounds with limited English skills.
- Language skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedure or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and/or procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word and Access.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Employee may be required to work with various hand tools and must be able to wear appropriate PPE. Employee may be required to lift up to 65 pounds unassisted while performing job duties.
Work Environment

The work is performed in a manufacturing environment with a majority of the day (greater than 50%) being spent on the production floor and less than 50% of the day in an office environment. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet unless transitioned into the production area where work is performed in a manufacturing area where the noise level in the work environment is typically loud. The manufacturing environment is not climate controlled and can involve high heat. Employees are required to use hearing, eye and toe protection. Other PPE may be required when working around moving machinery.
