Job Description

I. Purpose

Provide technical support of manufacturing operations, systems, and processes at the Amcor Joplin, MO manufacturing site.  Coordinate repairs and equipment installations involved with improving safety, reducing downtime,  and implementing projects assigned.

II. Duties

  • Support Environmental Health & Safety for the facility, following all current policies and procedures and making an effort to improve the Environmental Health and Safety performance of our facility.

  • Determines customers’/plant needs by identifying problems, developing and evaluating solutions by defining project scope and providing hands on troubleshooting techniques.

  • Must research and produce cost estimates necessary to accomplish scheduled and emergency repairs as well as to provide replacement of components or equipment utilizing service vendors and internal resources to impact a timely recovery with limited downtime.

  • Initiates equipment modifications to increase machine productivity and reduce waste.  The machinery is flexible packaging converting equipment, which includes, but is not limited to: Flexographic and Rotomec Printing Presses, Adhesive Laminators, Extrusion Coaters and Slitter Rewinders, Facilities, HVAC, and Production Support Equipment.

  • Initiates and documents procedures to increase machine productivity and reduce waste and ensure Safety of all Joplin Partners utilizing the MP2 system and standard work program. These programs offer an immediate resource for corrective action as well as provide historical documentation for tracking cost of labor while providing troubleshooting solutions to minimize production downtime.

  • Troubleshoots manufacturing operations Electrical, Mechanical and Process issues utilizing all available resources for rapid recovery.

  • Trains and mentors assigned partners for proper operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of new, existing and/or modified equipment including the development of new or revised standard work, updated TPM schedules and training programs to support necessary changes. 

  • As a Change Agent impacting day to day operations maintaining excellent rapport with internal and external customers is critical.

  • Supports, assists and provides joint leadership in plant clean and check events as well as any facility maintenance issues to ensure rapid recovery to help maintain production schedules.

  • Maintains standard operating conditions system which ensures consistent manufacturing equipment operating conditions. Adheres to Safety Operating Procedures for Electrical Safety and Lockout/Tagout programs and personal protective equipment. Develops, prepares and/or assembles the engineering package for each assigned project.  This includes designs, calculations, layouts, schematics, manuals, etc.

  • Works with purchasing services for project materials required to implement projects and repairs.  This includes reviewing potential vendors contacts with vendors, requesting purchase orders, some price negotiations, and expediting delivery.

  • Coordinates or assists with installation, checkout, start-up and training as necessary. Completes project documentation as required.

III. Knowledge

1. Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of experience in troubleshooting Manufacturing equipment in Electrical support role.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to work with contractors, suppliers and internal personnel and area leaders.

  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Must have strong time management skills to handle multiple ongoing projects in addition to day to day process problems.

  • Strong knowledge of computer systems, Area Networks, PLC applications, Microsoft Word, Excel and CAD Systems.

  • Strong knowledge of process used to manufacture flexible packaging.  Especially Flexographic printing, Rotogravure, film extrusion, adhesive laminating and slitting.

  • Strong knowledge of Process Support equipment including, but not limited to PLCs, AC and DC Drives, Chiller Systems, Air Compressors, Catalytic Oxidizers, Burner or Oven Control Systems, Electrical Distribution, MCC’s and Solvent Reclaim Systems

  • Ability to work all times of the day as required by projects, equipment breakdowns, coworker absences or Plant Emergencies.

  • This position follows a 3-2-2-3, 12 hour shift on days with on-call coverage every other month.

2. Sources

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an Electrical or Mechanical engineering or related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 7-10 years troubleshooting equipment in a manufacturing environment

  • Trade journals, trade shows, technical seminars, management seminars, equipment supplier contacts and raw material contacts.

IV. Essential Physical Requirements

  • Position requires standing and working in a production environment.

  • Conditions include high noise levels, temperature variations and some odors relating to a manufacturing environment.

  • Remainder of time will be spent in an office/shop environment.  Frequent use will be made of computer where manual dexterity is required to use keyboard and mouse. 

  • This position requires limited travel, less than 10%.
