Job Description

Title:                Shift Lead

Reports to:    Production Manager

Summary:      Plan, direct, lead and support all activities related to work teams, schedules, and production through positive and proven leadership and support skills.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS OVERVIEW:

Responsibilities:

Supervise plant operations during off-shifts, following all company policies, procedures and standards as they relate to specific areas, the overall business and individual teams throughout the company. Ensure all safety, health and environmental practices and procedures are followed.

  • Effectively and efficiently lead teams to improve performance, sharing knowledge, while continually improving process quality & achieving company goals.
  • Maintain a positive presence at all times in pressroom while providing support and assistance to all departments as needed.
  • Maintain, supervise and enforce the environmental, health and safety standards as set forth by company policies, practices and procedures

Ensure quality of jobs completed by reviewing for quality and accuracy. Monitor and train as needed to ensure compliance.

  • Ensures finished product appears to be of highest quality, accurately printed and completed and free of errors. Ensuring product quality output meets or exceeds defined standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for application of all quality procedures, monitoring and directing in completion of quality documentation, ensure quality testing is completed accurately and timely.
  • Ensure the isolation and tagging of all non-conforming material in a real time basis
  • Participate and ensure Quality Observation audits are complete
  • Support and communicate all ISO 9001-2000 standards and quality objectives as they relate to the Production Department.

Perform and maintain compliance for all Environmental, Health and Safety issues.

  • Responsible for the overall plant compliance of all Company Clean Vision Standards.

Coaching and/or Leading all employees to maintain the highest standards of clean vision at all times.

  • Serve as Off Shift Emergency Shift Coordinator including but not limited to accident investigation and reporting, maintaining environment free from physical violence, threats or intimidation. Also, act as EHS agent, when EHS Coordinator is not available.
  • Responsible for ensuring the protection of all employees during fire or other emergency requiring evacuation of the plant.
  • Ensure that all equipment is operating in a safe, efficient and non-hazardous manner
  • Ensures all personnel follow personal protection procedures by use of appropriate personal protective equipment at all times while in designated areas and specific tasks requiring the use of PPE.
  • Ensures all established procedures and guidelines for the handling and disposal of all hazardous materials/waste are maintained
  • Ensures all personnel wears proper uniform according to company policies.
  • Ensure the safe use of Company provided safety lifting equipment, i.e., hoist, jacks, vacuum manipulators, etc.
  • On a regular basis, examines work areas to keep it in a safe and neat condition ensuring that all work areas are maintained for cleanliness and safe environment following all safety rules and regulations for grounding, storage, spill clean-up, etc.

Responsible for all technical issues regarding machine efficiency, productivity, waste. Instruct, lead and co-ordinate preventative maintenance. Ensure effective use of labor.

  • Operate press, troubleshoot and monitor press operation.
  • Through proven experience, maximize machine efficiency through coordination of efficient and rapid make-ready, press adjustments for speed and quality.
  • Instruct various team members and team leads as to the most efficient means of performing duties to ensure highest quality product.
  • Instruct, coach and lead to ensure all preventative maintenance is performed while maintaining speeds, quality and schedules.
  • Through proven experience maintain effective use of available labor.

Lead, Coach and Communicate with all personnel to ensure team development, behavior and understanding of company practices and procedures. Conduct meetings, promote positive employee relations.

  • Instrumental in all aspects of team developments, leading/coaching both on and off presses in accomplishment to meeting all scheduling and customer expectations.
  • Participate in training/preparation and instruction as needed.
  • Provide feedback to all employees, supporting and sharing on a regular and needed basis to maintain production schedules, resolve issues and meet and exceed quality improvement objectives.

Administer and complete all documentation as required by current company policies and procedures

  • Accurately and timely process all documentation relative to Production.
  • Conduct employee evaluations and counseling.
  • Ensure accurate compliance with time keeping ensuring employees are correctly and accurately calculated.
  • Ensure all Pecas documentation is maintained and completed.

Must be able to perform any and all work or additional tasks and projects as required or requested by management.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma (or GED) with a minimum of 10 years in printing industry with a minimum of 5 years of proven leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in the areas of coaching, leading and/or coordinating team activities in the areas of problem solving, communications, meetings, skill assessments, team development, employee relations.
  • Safety and mathematical skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs
  • This position may require prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking.
  • Must be able to hold, touch, feel and manipulate with hands product and equipment in a safe manner. Manual dexterity is required.
  • Use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to rotate shifts as required.
