Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Technician – Injection to support the operation, optimization, and reliability of Husky PET injection molding systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

This role serves as a key technical resource responsible for process control, mold changeovers, troubleshooting, and equipment performance. The technician will help drive safety, quality, and continuous improvement while supporting production efficiency and uptime.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

Process Control & Optimization

Optimize injection molding processes, including:

  • Injection speed/pressure profiles
  • Screw recovery and plasticizing
  • Hold/pack pressure and cooling
  • Cycle time efficiency
  • Perform quality checks after mold, resin, or color changes and process adjustments
  • Troubleshoot defects such as short shots, flash, gate issues, bubbles, discoloration, and unmelts
  • Maintain alignment with approved/master processes (BIC standards)
  • Document all process changes in FMS and production reports

Husky System Operation & Troubleshooting

  • Operate and support Husky G-Line and HyPET injection systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and process-related issues
  • Diagnose problems including:
    • Hydraulic instability
    • Servo drive faults
    • Cooling inefficiencies
    • Valve gate malfunctions
    • PLC communication issues
  • Coordinate with OEM support (Husky, Color Matrix) when needed

Mold Changeovers & Startup

  • Lead and support mold and core changeovers (target: 2–6 hours)
  • Perform:
    • Mold installation and alignment
    • Utility connections (water, air, hydraulics)
    • Hot runner and valve gate verification
    • Robot EOAT setup and alignment
  • Startup machines and stabilize production
  • Update process sheets, HMI data, and SAP records
  • Ensure all systems are validated prior to production

Daily Machine & Process Verification

  • Verify machines are running to standard process sheets
  • Confirm:
    • Mold and hot runner identification
    • Correct cavitation
    • Color system functionality
    • Robot sensors and photo eyes
  • Escalate discrepancies to leadership

Maintenance & Equipment Reliability

  • Support preventative and predictive maintenance activities
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, including:
    • Replacing valves, hoses, and fittings
    • Clearing feed throat or nozzle blockages
    • Replacing seals and O-rings
  • Assist with upkeep of:
    • Mold and Hot Runner PMs
    • Cooling systems and dryers
    • Robotics and auxiliary equipment

Color Systems & Material Handling

  • Perform color changes and setup:
    • Clean mixers and feed throats
    • Load and verify color processes
  • Troubleshoot discoloration and plugged lines
  • Understand material flow and troubleshoot vacuum/blower systems
  • Maintain grinders and pellet systems as needed

Mold & Auxiliary Equipment Support

  • Assist with minor mold maintenance and repairs
  • Address leaks, flash conditions, and mechanical issues
  • Support cavity blocking and identification as needed

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures including LOTO
  • Adhere to GMP and plant safety policies
  • Complete required safety training and proactive safety activities

Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate machine and quality issues to supervisors and maintenance leadership

Document:

  • Process changes
  • Shift activities
  • Maintenance actions
  • Complete required logs, reports, and SAP entries

Continuous Improvement

  • Support improvements in:
    • Changeover efficiency
    • Process stability
    • Equipment reliability
    • Production output
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and plant initiatives

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED. Some post-secondary education preferred (i.e., Technical or Vocational education in millwright, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics or industrial maintenance is highly preferred).
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience working with high-speed injection molding equipment, preferably Husky PET injection molding systems.
  • Experience in high-speed manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated maintenance & electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Good display of interpersonal skills and ability to interact with others in a professional and tactful manner.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
  • SAP, Basic computer skills (Microsoft office)
  • Flexibility for overtime or off-shift support

Pay Transparency Statement – Compensation

The starting salary for this position is expected to be between $42.55-44.55 depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on national averages and a geographic differential may be applied based on work location. Position may also be eligible for Amcor’s Management Incentive Plan / Sales Incentive Plan, which is an annual bonus program based on business and individual performance, as well as medical coverage and other health and welfare benefits.
