Each year, improvements in technology mean more materials can be recycled and more efficiently. You can recycle at work everything that you can recycle at home and more.
Cardboard, paper (all types), drinks cans, paint and other steel cans, glass, plastic bottles, film plastic, batteries, mobile phones, computers. Even polystyrene and fluorescent lights can now be recycled.
Here is Australia we have made some progress but we have much more to do. For example, the good news is that we lead the world in newspaper recycling (over 75% is recovered for reuse) but the bad news is we currently lose around 700kg of resources per person to landfill each year making us third worst in the world (New Zealand’s rate is almost half that!)
Most workplaces generate all the same types of waste as households do - but they often generate different quantities. Sometimes very different quantities!
For example, here's our 'Top 10' of the most common workplace recyclables. How many of these are you recycling at your work?
