Getting Started
The most important part in starting your recycling program is to simply take the first step. We encourage you to contact our Recycling team to find out the best way for your business to start recycling, or to improve on your current processes.
Start small and be realistic
An easy and achievable way to solve your waste problems is by recycling just one material at a time. It’s usually best to start recycling whatever you have the most of – be it cardboard, paper, plastic bottles or ink cartridges.
Make it easy
Think about where the recyclables are used and how you can make recycling the easiest option for everyone. Placing recycling bins next to general waste bins for example, is a great first step.
Get support from management
Find ways to integrate recycling into your business procedures and policies. Embedding a recycling culture into all aspects of your business is the best way to encourage recycling and reduce waste.
Set – and celebrate – targets
Setting and working towards goals can be fun and encourage positive behaviour – especially if they result in a reward. Make recycling in your business a positive experience – not only through knowing you are reducing waste to landfill, but through incentives. Examples may include putting the money saved by recycling towards staff celebrations or charity donations.
Communicate as much as you can
It’s important to ensure everyone understands not only what and how to recycle, but why. Use effective communication tools such as signage to inform and encourage others to effectively participate in your recycling program. And make sure you share positive feedback and results – celebrate success. Every little bit counts.
The more you recycle, the easier and more effective it gets. Your recycling efforts will not only contribute positively to the environment, but to your bottom line. Contact Amcor Recycling to find out more.
