Overview

Amcor Asia, based in Singapore, operates five plants spread across three countries - Singapore, Malaysia and China. It is also responsible for Amcor's partial ownership in the Hong Kong publicly listed company AMVIG.

Amcor Asia is a leading supplier of tobacco and flexible packaging in the region.

Tobacco packaging is a major focus of Amcor Asia, with plants in Singapore and Malaysia.  These plants specialise in producing all forms of high quality packaging for the tobacco industry. This includes a high level of expertise in hinge lid manufacturing to support the industry's move to higher speed packaging equipment. Due to its intimate knowledge of the tobacco industry's needs, Amcor Asia has been able to provide clients with new marketing concepts, design of new brands and ecologically sound packaging systems.

Operating three flexible packaging plants in Asia, Amcor Flexibles is one of the top five suppliers in China. The business unit makes flexible plastic packaging for products such as confectionery, pet food, carbonated beverages, ice cream and biscuits.

AMVIG

AMVIG is China's leading manufacturer of tobacco packaging with approximately 17% market share.

Flexibles Plant in Zhongshan City

The Amcor Flexibles plant in the southern province of Guandong, China, was relocated from the commercial/residential district of Zhongshan City to the suburban area.

Commencing operations in September 2007, following the installation of new machinery and the relocation of existing machinery, the facility features two additional production lines that include one 10-colour and one six-colour gravure printer, two dry laminators and two extruder laminators.

The relocation and the introduction of new equipment allowed the plant to increase capacity by as much as 40 per cent compared to the previous operation. Uniquely designed and purpose built, the new 16,000 square metre plant employs 200 people and continues to serve existing customers including Nestlé, Danone and Kraft.
