Greenhouse Emissions, Energy Use and Waste

A part of Amcor's environmental strategy involves tracking and reducing energy use, greenhouse emissions and waste to landfill.

Since 2001 Amcor sites have record and reported annual production, energy use, waste to landfill, recycled waste and hazardous waste. As there is a strong correlation between greenhouse gas emissions and energy use at Amcor's manufacturing sites around the world, energy use is used as a key internal measure of environmental performance.

Energy audits have been conducted at many sites and the findings have been used to implement improvements across Amcor's sites globally. All of Amcor's manufacturing sites have now developed, or are in the process of developing, energy use reduction plans, which involve reducing the energy use per product.

Chemicals play a key role in society and in manufacturing processes. Amcor recognises that although chemicals are a critical component in manufacturing, like all resources, they need to be used efficiently and appropriately disposed of.

All Amcor facilities operate under the appropriate licenses which regulate the use and disposal of chemicals. Any breach of licence conditions are reported and measures put in place to prevent such incidents.

A number of countries produce publicly available databases of chemical emissions. These allow interested members of the community to access information on chemical emissions in their local area. Amcor provides emission data to these databases as required. Key databases include:

Australia Europe USA
National Pollutant Inventory European Pollutant Emissions Register Toxic Release Inventory

In some countries such as Denmark, Amcor facilities also produce "Green Reports" that allow the community to understand resource use.
