18 September, 2007: New York – Sept. 18, 2007 – Amcor Flexibles, a global leader in printed film and foil laminates used in sample and retail packaging for a wide variety of personal care applications, today announced a new North American initiative. Now, personal care packaging will also be produced in its Madison, Wis., facility utilizing dedicated sales, engineering and technical staff, along with new equipment, including a new 10-color rotogravure press, a new adhesive laminator and a clean room finishing area.
For more than 30 years, Amcor Flexibles’ European facilities, AF Tobepal (Spain), AF Venus (UK) and AF Gent (Belgium), have been supplying customers in Europe, North America and South America with a wide range of high barrier laminations for sachets, wipes, peelable applications and stand-up pouches for personal care and cosmetic applications.
“Through our European plants, Amcor Flexibles has established a reputation among multi-national brand owners within the personal care and cosmetics industries for innovative materials and packaging concepts supported by high quality printing capabilities and state-of-the-art technologies,” said Teri Meadow, Director of Personal Care, Amcor Flexibles. “By building on the success and reputation of these European plants, we are able to provide the same level of quality and service from our Madison facility. The result will be expanded capabilities for global brands worldwide .”
Amcor Flexibles recently invested $13 million in its Madison facility to support its North American-based personal care packaging initiative. Among the plant’s new equipment is a versatile 10-station Rotomec gravure printing press with in-line converting operations, including in-register solvent-based coating with adhesive laminating and cold seal coating, and a solvent-based adhesive laminator.
The plant also features a new incinerator that reduces emissions and energy consumption by recycling the energy it produces, along with an ink solvent recovery system.
To ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, Amcor Flexibles installed a Class 100,000 clean room finishing area and incorporated a wide range of environmental control systems that limit access to manufacturing areas, segregate and isolate equipment into positive air pressure environments. Defect detection and pest control systems further enhance the facility’s quality and cleanliness.
“Amcor Flexibles strives for best-practice environmental management in its operations and has a firm commitment to developing sustainable packaging that is environmentally-friendly,” said Teri Meadow. “To that end, we have developed recyclable films and flexible alternatives to rigid packaging that have eye-catching shelf presence yet minimize the impact on the environment.”
